Look at the yolk
The yolk is the coloured centre of the egg. Yolk colour can naturally range from lighter yellow to deeper orange shades and can be influenced by what the hen eats.
A darker yolk should not, by itself, be treated as proof that one egg is fresher, more nutritious or better than another.
Look at the egg white
The clear part surrounding the yolk is the egg white, also called the albumen. Its appearance and consistency can vary naturally between eggs.
